Downloading and Installing SHO Player

The SHO Player application is available as a free download from the Transcensus website at www.transcensus.com/pages/tour/player/.  Click on the Download SHO Player image to start the download.  It is best to save installation file to your computer in case you need to run the installation again in the future.

After downloading the player, double-click on the sho player.exe file you saved to your computer, and follow the instructions in the installation routine.  Once you have successfully installed SHO Player, the .SHO file format is registered on your computer, and you can run published SHO scripts from any source you or a system administrator have determined to be a trusted content source (see SHO Player Properties for information on trusted authors).

Note: In organizations that employ more restricted permissions on local computers, the SHO Player application can be deployed through a silent or unattended installation.  Contact Transcensus for more information on deployment options.

Updating the Installation

Periodically, you may want to install updates to SHO Player as they become available.  There are three ways to update SHO Player.

  • From the Transcensus Website – The current version of SHO Player is always available on the Transcensus website at www.transcensus.com/pages/tour/player/.  Follow the same procedure you used to download and install SHO Player the first time.
  • From the SHO Player Properties Dialog Box – If you click the Check for updates now button in the SHO Player Properties dialog box (see SHO Player Properties), the application will check for a more recent version of SHO Player and, if one is available, give you the choice to install it.
  • Automatically Update SHO Player – If the Automatically check for updates check box is activated in the SHO Player Properties dialog box, the system will check for updates each time you log in to your computer.  See SHO Player Properties for more information.
