Always warn about
suspicious content
If activated, when you encounter a script containing
potentially risky content, SHO Player will ask you whether or
not you want to run the script. “Risky” content includes
any script that runs an executable file, batch file or other
program file, as well as automated input of any kind.
Trusted Authors
Displays the list of trusted content authors. A
trusted author is an individual or organization you accept as a
reliable source of SHO content. When you launch a script,
SHO Player verifies whether or not the author of the content is
in your Trusted Authors list. Depending on the
Security level setting, may or may not be able to play
content from non-trusted authors.
Remove
Removes the selected author from the Trusted Authors
list.

SHO Player Properties
The SHO Player Properties dialog box contains
settings that control the behavior of the SHO Player
application. There are two ways to access this dialog box.
- Open it from the SHO Player control bar by
right-clicking on the SHO icon and choosing Properties
from the context menu that appears.
- Open it from the Transcensus program group by choosing
Start > All Programs > Transcensus > SHO Player > SHO
Player Properties.
General Tab
The General tab contains options for
selecting the preferred playback language, specifying the
hotkeys for pausing and exiting scripts, saving the position of
the control bar, running scripts in debug mode and checking for
updates.

Preferred language
Specifies the preferred language for
script playback. You can select any of the eleven
supported languages, or choose System Language, which
automatically sets the playback language based on the language
settings of your operating system. If a script does not
contain balloons in the language you have selected, SHO Player
will attempt to display English balloons. If both English
and the language you have selected are not included in the
script, the script will not be able to play.
SHO escape key
Specifies the key to press to exit a script.
SHO pause key
Specifies the key to press to pause a script.
Automatically save control
bar position
If you reposition the SHO Player control bar while this
option is activated, the new position will be saved as the
default position for all scripts. If this option is off,
the control bar will return to its last saved position the next
time you launch a script.
Debug mode
If activated, the script runs in debug mode. Debug
mode displays a command window that tracks the activity of the
script. It also creates a trace file with a .TRC file
extension in the same folder as the script. The
information in the command window and trace file is useful for
troubleshooting problems with scripts that are not playing back
properly.
Automatically check for
updates
If activated, the system will check for updates to SHO
Player each time you log in to your computer. If a new
update is available, the dialog box below appears. If you
choose Install, the update will be installed. If
you choose Remind me later, you will receive a reminder
about the new update seven days later. If you choose
Don’t ask me again, the new update will be ignored and the
Automatically check for updates option will be turned
off.
Check for updates now
Allows you to manually check for and install SHO Player
updates.
Security Tab
The Security tab contains options for specifying the
level of security used in determining which SHO scripts are
allowed to run on your system and lists the SHO content authors
you have accepted as trusted authors.
HIGH runs scripts from trusted authors
only. When you encounter an unknown author, the alert
window shown below appears and the script is blocked from
playing.
Security Level
Determines whether or not you are able to play SHO content
from authors who are not in your Trusted Author list (see
below). LOW runs any script from any author.
MEDIUM runs scripts from trusted authors, but prompts you
to specify whether or not you want to run scripts from unknown
authors, as shown in the figure below.
